Hitmen 5 – Hawks 1…

Not much to say about this one other than it was a very strong road performance by the Calgary Hitmen as they used strong forecheck and backcheck pressure to eliminate time and space for the Portland Winterhawks in the 5-1 win.

Kris Foucault was the dominant player on the ice, scoring twice and adding one assist while Cody Sylvester added a pair of goals and Cody Beach chipped in two assists.   Michael Snider was good when he had to be in net for the Hitmen and I’m sure that Mike Williamson was happy with his teams performance on his first return to Portland as a visiting coach.

Sven Bärtschi scored a late power play goal to extend his goal streak to three games, converting five goals in that stretch.  Ty Rattie added an assist to give him five assists in three games as well.   Mac Carruth made 33 saves in the loss.

Calgary has now won six straight against Portland, including the last three in Portland.  For the statistical anomaly of the night, the last three wins for Calgary in Portland have all been by 5-1 margins.

Next up…a BC trip for the boys to Kamloops and Kelowna on Friday and Saturday and a trip to Disneyland for yours truly.  You can tune into Todd Vrooman’s call for the two games this weekend on Freedom 970 at 6:40 for the pregame shows both nights.

The blogger is out…I’ll be back to work next Tuesday…

  1. How can you possibly call the number 3 star from last night. That was purely a homer call. What about Calgary’s goaltender. Sorry Andy I really think you blew that one. All he did was stand there and receive a pass then shoot. Not much skill in that.

  2. Hey Don…I’ve said it before, three stars are subjective and everyone usually has a different look. Maybe next time, you can bring up your selections to me for consideration…not really, just kidding.

I’ve been called worse things than a homer…
