The NHL prospect tournaments are starting to wrap up and the Hawks got word that one player, Taylor Peters, is on his way back to Portland from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Peters played in three games with the Penguins, picking up one assist, in the tournament in London, ON.
Brad Ross played in two of the three games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and scored in each game. Ross should be heading to the Leafs main camp now and could see some time in preseason games with Toronto before making his way back to Portland.
In Traverse City, the Columbus Blue Jackets with Ryan Johansen, Oliver Gabriel and Chris Francis have struggled, but all of the Hawks and former Hawk have hit the scoresheet. Johansen appeared in the first two games, but sat out the game yesterday when Francis tallied the only goal for the Jackets in a 8-1 loss to Carolina. Francis has 2-1-3 in 3 games in his first pro experience. All three are on the main camp roster for Columbus.
Brett Ponich has also played in the tournament for St. Louis and he will be heading to the Blues main camp and could see preseason action as a signed prospect for St. Louis.
For Nino Niederreiter, his first preseason action comes tonight as the New York Islander prospects take on the Boston Bruins prospects. Nino is slated to play on a line with former Hawk list player Rhett Rakhshani in the game. The game is supposed to be streamed on the Islanders website later on today.
The players in Portland are getting ready for the final preseason game this weekend in Kent at 7:05. Todd Vrooman will be on hand to host the live blog from this site. Details to follow on that later this week.
