Same Script…Different Series…

The Portland Winterhawks continue to defy the odds in the 2010 playoffs as for the fifth straight time, they win on the road, this time with a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Giants at the Pacific Coliseum.   Vancouver still leads the series 2 games to 1, with Game 4 on Friday night.

Contrary to what I said last night…game time on Friday is 7:30, not 7:00, with our pregame show on the air at 7:10 on KXL 750 AM.

Chris Francis chipped in three assists last night to lead the way offensively for Portland and the power play continued to perform, going 2 for 5, and has gone 4 for 9 in the last two games against the Giants, who were second overall in the league in the regular season on the penalty kill.

Defensively, the Hawks did a nice job of slowing the Giants down in the neutral zone and the entire team played a physical style, throwing big hits that seemed to knock Vancouver off their stride a bit.  Nino Niederreiter’s hit on Brett Lyon in the first period last night in neutral ice was a thing of beauty that had Lyon flyin’ right in front of the Giant bench.

Ian Curtis won his his first ever playoff start, stopping 29 of 31 shots, and played very much under control.  I would imagine that he would get the nod again heading into Game 4.

The only downfall of the night, besides the pouring rain and winds, was that the post-game beverages in the lounge at our hotel was disrupted by really bad open mic stand up comedy.  It was painful…beyond painful…

One final thought…to whomever decided that an eight foot long, two foot wide skylight in a hotel room was a good idea…they should be hung from their toes.   Or forced to try and sleep past six AM when the room is lit up by the light coming through the skylight….

Just sayin’…

  1. Hey Andy: Bad comedy night along with a Hawk win is a lot better than great comedy following a loss. With the hotel skylight issue, who is booking the hotels for the winterhawks? Coach Hay?
