USA Wins Gold…

Luke Walker and his Team USA teammates celebrate their 6-5 overtime win against Team Canada at the World U20 Championships in Saskatoon, SK, earlier this evening.

John Carlson scored on a 3-on-1 rush to end what was a tremendous game.

I watched the game at a local sports bar in Rochester, NY, with some co-workers and was surprised when former Buffalo Sabre and New York Islander Coach Ted Nolan walked in.  Nolan is the Head Coach of the Rochester Americans AHL squad.

For Walker, I’m sure that he would have liked to have had more ice time, but one thing is certain for Walks…he is a team first guy and you can bet that he worked his tail off at every practice and every time he got the opportunity to play.

The fans of Portland and the Portland Winterhawks can be very proud of Walker and Team USA’s accomplishment…

Also, congrats to Brad Ross for being named the WHL Player of the Month for December…it is a great achievement and once that was richly deserved.

  1. Andy

Toss in that Nino Neidereiter was named to the media All-Star team and the Winterhawks had a very good day.

What a nice excuse to come see the Winterhawks play this weekend

  2. Who needs a reason (excuse) to come see the Hawks play?

Congrats to Luke, Nino and Brad.

It was also cool to see the US guys singing the national anthem during the flag raising and to see Daddy Gord Walker in the crowd waving a flag.
