Walker Named to USA Roster…

Say what you will about mouth injuries, but one thing is for certain, they are a long way from the heart.

Luke Walker, coming off one of the worst mouth injuries I’ve ever seen, not only went to the USA World Jr. Evaluation Camp in Grand Forks, but the 19 year old forward has made the final cut and will represent the U.S. at the prestigious tournament.

Walker and Team USA’s first game will be this Saturday against Slovakia.  All of USA’s game will be televised on the NHL Network.

Walker and Tyler Johnson of the Spokane Chiefs are the lone two WHL representatives on the U.S. Roster.  The entire roster can be seen here.

Congrats Luke…

In other tournament news…Nino Niederreiter scored the opening goal for the Swiss team in their 5-2 win over Austria in a pre-tournament exhibition game.  The Swiss play in the same pool as Canada and the U.S. so they are in a tough bracket.   You can watch Luke and Nino face-off against each other on Monday afternoon on the NHL Network.

Also, Gasper Kopitar’s Slovenia squad rallied after losing their first two games in the World U20 Division 1A pool in France to win their final three contests to finish third overall in the six game round-robin.  Kopitar picked up one assist in the five games for Slovenia.

Lastly, Ty Rattie and Tyler Wotherspoon will play for Team Pacific at the World U17 Championships in Ontario.

The Hawks will miss Walker, Niederreiter, Rattie and Wotherspoon for a minimum of five games each at the tournaments…
