Last Day On The Road…

Seems like we’ve been gone forever and I’m very ready to get back to Portland…

It took until this far for my voice to start to fail so tonight should be fun as it is going to be a bit wonky.  I’m drinking some hot tea with honey and lemon to try and soothe the vocal cords and I’ll have the lozenges at hand and I’ll fight through it for tonight.

While it is great to have a 3-2-0-0 record through the first five games, I sense that no one would be happy going home with a .500 record on the trip and that heading home with a winning record will help the team make a statement to the rest of the WHL.  In fact, that was the thought from day one of the trip.  The team had workout shirts made up for the players with the statement “Battle of Alberta” on the front and the line “Make A Statement” on the back.  The shirts were handed out as we pulled out of Portland to start the trip and the expectations were set at that moment.

One more game tonight to make the statement…I can’t wait…

After a foggy morning yesterday, the sun came out and it was a gorgeous day here in Cranbrook.   The team is staying outside of town at the St. Eugene Mission Resort and it is truly a great place.   It is a golf resort (although the course is closed now) and it has very nice amenities…

Here are some photos:

To wrap this up…my buddy Graham over at “The Hawks Nest” started a blog at the start of this trip with some song lyrics…well, long time readers of this blog know that I used to throw out some lyrics of my own from time to time…so, I’ll close out the trip blogs with some lyrics…from Rush, of course…the song is “Making Memories” from the Fly By Night album…

There’s a time for feelin’ as good as we can
The time is now, and there’s no stoppin’ us
There’s a time for livin’ as high as we can
Behind us you will only see our dust.

You know we’re havin’ good days
And we hope they’re gonna last
Our future still looks brighter than our past
We feel no need to worry
No reason to be sad
Our mem’ries remind us, maybe road life’s not so bad.

Let’s keep it rockin’, boys…

  1. Well done Andy! It’s great to see how much the Winterhawks have and are turning things around. Someone once said that victory is sweetest when you have known defeat… and we HAVE known defeat! Now its our turn to make a statement… Go Hawks!

  2. Excellent lyrics for this trip Andy! They are very fitting for these boys!

  3. Awesome, Andy! Perfect words for the wonderful, exciting team effort we have witnessed this season! Best to the team tonight – and, also, to you… will be listening (as well as watching on WebTV) and hope I hear a lot of “scores!”, with NO damage to your vocal chords…. whisper “score”, if you have to! LOL! Good luck!!!!

  4. Andy, no doubt the boy’s are starting to make a statement. I think the T-Shirt should say, “The 2009-10 Hawk Payback Tour is Hot and Rolling”

    Peace

    Hawkink

  5. Andy, your voice sounded pretty good last night! No Worries! Good job!

  6. Hey Andy I guess we could try and ask Nino to ease up a bit to save your vocal chords… On second thought I’d rather have a hoarse announcer than a cold rookie any day of the week…
