Seems like we’ve been gone forever and I’m very ready to get back to Portland…
It took until this far for my voice to start to fail so tonight should be fun as it is going to be a bit wonky. I’m drinking some hot tea with honey and lemon to try and soothe the vocal cords and I’ll have the lozenges at hand and I’ll fight through it for tonight.
While it is great to have a 3-2-0-0 record through the first five games, I sense that no one would be happy going home with a .500 record on the trip and that heading home with a winning record will help the team make a statement to the rest of the WHL. In fact, that was the thought from day one of the trip. The team had workout shirts made up for the players with the statement “Battle of Alberta” on the front and the line “Make A Statement” on the back. The shirts were handed out as we pulled out of Portland to start the trip and the expectations were set at that moment.
One more game tonight to make the statement…I can’t wait…
After a foggy morning yesterday, the sun came out and it was a gorgeous day here in Cranbrook. The team is staying outside of town at the St. Eugene Mission Resort and it is truly a great place. It is a golf resort (although the course is closed now) and it has very nice amenities…
Here are some photos:
To wrap this up…my buddy Graham over at “The Hawks Nest” started a blog at the start of this trip with some song lyrics…well, long time readers of this blog know that I used to throw out some lyrics of my own from time to time…so, I’ll close out the trip blogs with some lyrics…from Rush, of course…the song is “Making Memories” from the Fly By Night album…
There’s a time for feelin’ as good as we can
The time is now, and there’s no stoppin’ us
There’s a time for livin’ as high as we can
Behind us you will only see our dust.
You know we’re havin’ good days
And we hope they’re gonna last
Our future still looks brighter than our past
We feel no need to worry
No reason to be sad
Our mem’ries remind us, maybe road life’s not so bad.
Let’s keep it rockin’, boys…
