Four Down, Two to Go…

A Nice Finish...

A Nice Finish...

A reversal of fortunes for your Portland Winterhawks as they came back from a 3-1 deficit to knock off the Medicine Hat Tigers at The Arena last night 5-3.

Nino Niederreiter got the game winner in the third period on a great two-on-one finish with Brad Ross and then Ian Curtis stole the show with an absolute highway robbery save on Matt MacKay in the final minutes to preserve the victory.   You can see the full highlights at the Tigers website.

It wasn’t a pretty start to the game for the Hawks as the Tigers used relentless speed and forecheck to create havoc in the Hawks defensive zone and they capitalized three times to take the lead.   Ian Curtis described the first ten minutes as an “air hockey game” with the puck bouncing everywhere.   After that, the Hawks settled down and took over the territorial play out-shooting the Tigers 29-22 the rest of the way.

The win evened the Central Swing at 2-2 with two games remaining – tonight in Lethbridge and then Friday in Cranbrook against the Kootenay Ice.

  4. game sheet says 4,006 attendance in ‘da Hat. Feeling bad not necessary! Good game in Medicine Hat and tonight, guys. Congratulations!

  5. I’m loving that classic hockey scoreboard! Reminds of the old MC board, you know back when the game was enough entertainment and you didn’t need a bunch of flashing lights and a noise meter to enjoy the game.

  6. The stands were actually full…just slow arriving from between periods…
