The view is from my 17th floor hotel room in downtown Calgary…not too shabby.
The bus rolled into Calgary a mere 90 minutes after leaving Red Deer last night and it was a quiet bus, something we haven’t had a lot of early in the season.
It was the start the Hawks wanted, scoring just 12 seconds in, but that was the extent of the highlights last night for Portland as the Rebels used speed and tenacity to take a 3-1 lead after one and then skate away with the 6-2 win. The Hawks battled all night, but the results just didn’t happen as they have in other games.
The team has an 0ff-day today, but we’ll be heading to the Saddledome in a little bit for a practice.
Later tonight, the Hawks staff will be taking in the Saskatoon Blades/Calgary Hitmen game at the Saddledome to help prepare for tomorrow’s afternoon contest. If you want to tune in, I’ll be the 2nd period intermission guest of the Hitmen’s Brad Curle on their broadcast. You can listen by going to www.hitmenhockey.com and click the “Listen Live” link. There is also a nice story on Mike Williamson available on that site.
That’s it for now…more thoughts tomorrow…
