Due to a hardware issue at the studio, Freedom 970 and other stations in the same building, lost their Internet streams on Sunday evening. This happened at sometime in the second period. I recorded the game (or most of it) on my digital recorder.
I did some quick editing and pasted everything together and the game can be heard here.
It is missing the first two minutes of the second period and the first five minutes of the third due to operator error (meaning the broadcaster forgot to hit “record” on the recorder).
But, it will give those who missed out a chance to listen to the vast majority of the game and the overtime period.
It was a long ride home last night, but a happy one, as the bus rolled into the Rose Quarter at 6:00 AM. We had a a couple brief excursions – one that was leading us into the bush (as they say in Canada) and another that tried to take us to Kelowna that were quickly extinguished – and a snack stop in Chilliwack followed by a half hour border crossing before heading home.
Winning both games in Spokane and Kamloops, the latter in come-from-behind overtime fashion, was a great way to spend the weekend. The Hawks have one more stiff test on Wednesday of this week in Everett before returning home for two games on Friday against Tri City and Saturday against the Prince Albert Raiders.
The team is in good spirits but they will miss having Oliver Gabriel around for a couple months after he had his spleen ruptured by a hit of Dustin Donaghy of Spokane on Friday night.
The video showed Donaghy taking three or four strides to go at Gabriel, but he did glide into the Hawk forward for the hit that just happened in a bad spot, on the benches where there is no glass to stop a player from getting bent over the boards where the injury occured.
I will post more thoughts on the Everett match-up tomorrow evening…
