Let Freedom Ring…

It was announced yesterday that all Winterhawk games will be broadcast on Freedom 970 AM for the 2009-10 season.

This is a great move to a station with a more powerful signal that people can hear all around the Portland Metro area from their houses to their cars.   Todd Vrooman and I will be on the air live on Saturday night from the ShoWare Center in Kent with the Hawks opening game against the Seattle Thunderbirds with the pregame show starting at 6:40 PM.

I would like to thank all of the folks who worked hard on making this deal happen, led by Doug Piper, Kelley Robinett and Sam Hicks in the Hawks front office and John Kirby for coordinating any technical issues.  It wasn’t an easy maneuver with 970 changing ownership groups in late August, but they got it done.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the great folks at 1550 AM KKAD for all of their hard work and dedication the past two seasons.  To Mike Schacker, Jason Huth and Nate Corbett, thanks for running the boards on game nights and providing good company during commercial breaks.

Lets drop the puck….

As far as roster updates go…I have been out of the loop a bit with my travel schedule…but any updates will come from the team as they see fit.   I do know that they are working to find the best fit for Radim Valchar, but he won’t be on the active roster for tomorrow night in Kent (meaning he will be removed from the roster on the WHL site and while that will say “deleted” in the transactions, it doesn’t mean that he has been released out-right, just removed from the active roster…clear as mud??).

  1. Andy:

    How about Todd “chopper” Vrooman?

  2. Glad the Hawks are on a radio station that you can actually hear. It will be great to be able to listen to the games in my car when i am driving around. Thanks Hawks for making this happen

  3. Andy,

Thanks for a little bit of a roster update. I wish the front office and our website would be more proactive on the roster information. Do they want us to associate with our Hawks or not?

“Hey Andy, who’s your favorite defenseman?”

“Uh, I dunno, I don’t know who’s on the roster.”

    Nuff said???

  4. The roster has been up-to-date for over a week on the Hawks website…and Graham has been keeping up with player stuff on his blog at “The Hawks Nest”…and I know who’s on the roster by looking on the Hawks website… ;-)

  5. What about Mucha’s status?????

  6. Mucha is still in camp with the Edmonton Oilers…

  7. Is the going to be an internet radio feed? Being out of the country for a year is going to be difficult!!
