Ryan Kerr Dealt to Calgary…

dsc_2574The Portland Winterhawks dealt overage defenseman Ryan Kerr to the Calgary Hitmen today for a conditional pick in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft.

Kerr came to Portland in the big trade with Lethbridge in November of 2007 and was hampered by shoulder injuries during his time in Portland, only appearing in 71 games, posting 1-7-8 and 133 PIM’s as a Hawk.

With the move, and Travis Ehrhardt’s signing, the Hawks overage situation is getting clearer.  Right now, it looks like Kurtis Mucha, Chris Francis and Stefan Schneider have the inside path as the other two remaining options (Brock Cornish and Radim Valchar) appear as longer shots due to Cornish’s injury problems and the incoming new import players.

If Kerr makes the Hitmen, it will be his fourth team in the WHL as he started in Prince George, moved to Lethbridge and then onto Portland.

Kerr will be missed for his leadership, work ethic and willingness to stand up for his teammates.

Best of luck in Calgary, Kerrsie…

  1. Dang! I hate it when a favorite leaves!! His intensity will be missed!!

  2. YEP, THE DAMN 20 YR OLD RULE ;) THOSE 3 YOU MENTIONED FOR HAVING THE INSIDE TRACK AS 20 YR OLDS NEXT SEASON WERE WHAT I WAS THINKING AT THE END OF LAST SEASON ANYWAYS..
BEFORE ALL THE TRADES AND NHL SIGNINGS…

    PATS SELF ON BACK ;)

  3. Bonghit: Don’t hurt yourself by patting yourself on the back !! I did not see your predictions at the end of the last season regarding the over ages! I still believe trading Mucha, the Hawks would receive a better return than a bantam pick from Kerr, especially with Calgary. Losing Kerr and Travis on the blue line might cause a small concern. Calling Mr. Ponich!

  4. WELL I DID :)

I WAS HOPING WE WOULD KEEP SCHNEIDER FOR NEXT SEASON. 11 GOALS, SOME OF THEM VERY NICE GOALS, AND HE’S A CONVERTED “D” MAN!

  5. Ohhhh… 11 goals! Thats not that impressive …..I think the Brock experiment is over too. Juat too many injuries and too many question marks. I think Chris Francis will make an excellent Captain for the upcoming season. After the tradegy of last season, and the leadership Chris represented, during those times, Chris should be the the leader of this team!
