Quick Thursday Thoughts…

Tired today…long bus ride last night, arriving back at the ole MC at 3:30 AM, rolling into my garage at just after 4:00 AM…

The Hawks played a bend-don’t break style for most of last nights game against the Spokane Chiefs and they were five minutes away from at least sending it to overtime.  A bad break while on the power play was enough for Spokane to get the win.

Chris Francis continued his hot stick of late, adding two points to his team leading total of 33.  He now has 2-7-9 in his last five games and now has 10 multiple point games on the season.

Radim Valchar also continues his streak, now getting goals in four straight games.  He is one behind Luke Walker (15 goals) for the team lead in that category.

Ian Curtis has played well in Spokane…earning a star in his two starts there as a Winter Hawk.  The save that the 18 year old goaltender made on Steven Kuhn halfway through the second period was highway robbery and has been submitted for WHL Plays of the Week…we’ll see if it makes the cut.

I’m not big on omens…but with the loss last night, the Hawks are now 0-9-1-0-0 in road games played on January 14 in their history.  The only point came in Kurtis Mucha’s first career WHL start as a 15 year old in Moose Jaw in 2005, a 4-4 tie.

Remembered when I mentioned how I hadn’t been infected with the cold that has been going through the team and that how I probably had cursed myself…I hate it when I’m right.    It started coming on during last nights game and bus ride home…I’m hoping my voice holds up and the cough isn’t too bad for the two games this weekend.

Looking forward to parents weekend, it is always good to see the players parents and families.  Sawyer Mick’s older brother Troy will be in Portland we will try to get him on a broadcast this weekend to catch up and relive some of his memories of playing in the Rose City.

Thats it for now…game notes to follow tomorrow…

  1. You gotta love Chris Francis. That’s playing through a different kind of injury – and he’s doing it well.

    Hats off to Francis!

  2. Hey Andy!

Will we have a working transmitter in the RG Friday night or should I leave the radio home?? I’d love to be able to hear your interview with Troy Mick. I was sorry to see him leave his bench duties.

Glad the team is working so hard every night. They may not win a majority of the games but it beats the hell out of what we saw almost all last year. Even if the boys don’t make the playoffs this year, I’m already satisfied with the on and off ice changes and looking forward to the future once again.

  3. Andy –

Lots of vitamin C, sleep, and hot tea.

  4. Andy, with Ian Curtis playing in goal have they reasigned Hamilton to another team or are we carring 3 goalies?

I hope your cold gets bette i really like your radio show.

  5. Mike,
the plan now is to carry three goaltenders…
