A nice way for the Portland Winter Hawks to finish their playing days at the Key Arena in Seattle, hammering home a 5-1 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds…a few thoughts…
Chris Francis picked up two assists and now has three straight games with two assists and has a total of seven assists in his last four games. I can’t remember the last time a Portland player had multiple assists in three straight games and it will do some research to find out when that happened last…if I have time, I’ll see if I can find the information.
Francis should have had a goal to go with the helpers, but was robbed on a glorious save by Jacob DeSerres late in the second period.
Sawyer Mick was all smiles after his first two goals in the WHL and when I asked him how it felt after the game he was almost speechless.
Only 142 more to catch older brother Troy…
Kurtis Mucha surpassed Lanny Ramage for minutes played by a goaltender in Winter Hawks history at 9,778. Mucha needs four more appearances to take over the first spot for games played by a goaltender at 176.
Oliver Gabriel had his first multiple point night picking up assists on both of Mick’s goals. Ollie wasn’t given credit for the second assist during the game, but video review was obvious that he deserved the point.
I didn’t see the incident involving Greg Scott and Tayler Jordan that led to Scott receiving the Match Penalty for stepping on the back of the leg of Jordan. From talking to a few people, it was obvious and it should warrant a few game suspension. Scott will sit tonight against the Spokane Chiefs, so he will miss at least one game as his suspension is TBD.
That’s it for now…I’ll post game notes for the game against Tri City later today…
