Valchar to World Jr’s…

tsw_08-valchar-2Radim Valchar, the Winter Hawks leading scorer with 10-11-21 in 33 games, has been selected to play for the Czech Republic squad at the World U20 Championships in Ottawa, ON, from December 26, 2008 through January 5, 2009.

Valchar will miss at least five games, but this is a great opportunity for him to play for his home country.

Valchar’s line with Chris Francis and Luke Walker has been Portland’s strongest for much of the last 6-8 weeks and I’ll talk with Head Coach Mike Johnston on the plans for replacing Radim on that line for the pre-game show tomorrow night from Seattle.

After going pointless in his first five games this season, Valchar has points in 18 of the next 28 games to be the most consistent Hawk this season.

Best of luck to Radim, you can follow the tournament at www.iihf.com.
