Hawks Notes: Seattle @ Portland – December 6, 2008

 

Previous Game – Calgary 5 @ Portland 1:  The Calgary Hitmen broke up a close game with three third period goals and they skate away with a 5-1 win over the Portland Winter Hawks at the Rose Garden on Friday night.  Brett Sonne got the lone goal of the opening period for Calgary, taking a feed from Kyle Bortis and beating Kurtis Mucha low to the glove side.  Portland would tie it early in the second period when Jonathan Milhouse tipped in a centering pass from Sawyer Mick in front of Calgary goaltender Michael Snider.   Calgary would regain the lead when Chase Schaber beat Mucha just inside the post on the stick side in the second period to give the Hitmen a 2-1 lead after two periods.  The Hitmen would start the third period on a power play and Sonne would get his second of the game, putting home a backhand from a bad angle.  Bostjan Golicic and Brandon Kozun added third period markers for Calgary to provide the final margin.  Mucha would make 44 saves on 49 shots in the loss for Portland while Snider would stop 22 of 23 for Calgary.  On special teams, Portland would finish 0 for 4 on the power play while Calgary went 1 for 6.

 

Team Notes:  Portland is (8-22-0-0); (5-8-0-0) at home (0-2-0-0 in Rose Garden); (3-14-0-0) on the road.  The Hawks last home win was on December 2, 2008, a 4-1 win over Kootenay.  The last road win was on November 7, 2008, a 2-1 win over Spokane.
