Not a good night…

Anyway you look at it, it was not a good night in Everett.  The Hawks lacked spark and energy and it appears that the schedule is having an effect on the team.

The past two weeks have featured a four game in five night stretch and now the Hawks are in the middle of a seven game in nine night stretch with two games remaining.

I know that some people will say it is an excuse, but can those same people tell me that a team that has had six days rest (like Everett had going into tonight) doesn’t have an advantage over a team playing their fourth game in five nights?

The Hawks schedule features 6 three games in three nights (down from 11 last year), an amazing 9 four game in five night stretches and this seven in nine.  The only stretch that is worse is when Vancouver plays eight games in 10 days in late February/early March.

In any case, maybe a day off tomorrow will help revitalize the team for the rematch on Friday night.

I didn’t get a good look at the incident that started the little melee at the end of the game tonight.  All I saw was Kyle Beach crumple to the ice and Tayler Jordan above him.  Both Jordan and Taylor Ellington received five minute majors for cross-checking and game misconducts while Travis Ehrhardt gets a game misconduct for his animated conversation with referee Sean Raphael.

This type of thing is not uncommon with Beach…as most post-game incidents with Everett seem to center around him.  He is a hell of a player, without a doubt…but it is hard to respect him for all of his antics, including the diving penalty tonight.

It is worth noting that Beach went down after Jordan checked him tonight but was up and fine just seconds later after Ellington came to his defense.

Something tells me this isn’t over…and Friday night may be very interesting.

Thats it for now…

  1. Tips played a game last Friday night in Swift Current. They drove 16 hours and arrived home Saturday afternoon. I count 4 days rest not 6. However, no matter, for Portland to play back to back Tues and Wed after playing Sunday, 3 games in 4 days is a bit much and the fatigue factor was evident.

  2. When Everett was in Regina, Colten Teubert has gone on record saying he challenged Beach to a fight and he accepted. When Teubert dropped the gloves, Beach didn’t. While Teubert was pounding at Beach, Ellington came to his defense.

You are right. It is hard to have any respect for Beach. Too bad Regina doesn’t have any enforcers on the team or else Beach wouldn’t have been able to get away with many of his antics.

  3. I guess I should not be surprised that Becanic would play his first line late in a game that is a blow out. He’s the same coach that plays his first PP at the end of a lopesided game too.

  4. I THOUGHT WHEN CONSTANTINE LEFT, SO DID THE DIVING. AMAZING!! I HOPE NHL SCOUTS FROWN ON DIVING. MAYBE THAT MIGHT TEACH A FEW GUYS A LESSON. I’M GLAD THE HAWKS DON’T STOOP TO THAT LEVEL. I REMEMBER THE “CLUTCH AND GRAB” DAYS OF THE SPOKANE CHIEFS. THOSE WERE JUST AS BAD IN MY OPINION.
I THINK SOONER THAN LATER, I WILL ACTUALLY WANT TO PUNISH EVERETT MORE WHEN THEY’RE DOWN THAN WHAT I’VE WANTED TO DO TO KAMLOOPS (AFTER YEARS OF LOPSIDED LOSSES) NOW THAT THE HITCHCOCK WINNING DAYS ARE OVER. NOT TO MENTION WE OWE VANCOUVER A FEW PUNISHING LOSSES NOW.
WE WILL RECOVER FROM THIS 7-1 LOSS. I STILL LIKE THE DIRECTION THINGS ARE GOING DESPITE GETTING POUNDED LAST NIGHT.

  5. I predict a WIN tomorrow night against Everett !! Anybody else going all in with me ??

  6. I was at the game in Everett and schedule issues can’t excuse the poor effort. This was one of the few games I’ve ever left early from, not only for the 5-0 score halfway through but for the fact that the defense was way out of position all night, Everett completely dominated them physically, and after the second goal just no serious effort. Not impressed.
