Hawks Notes: Portland @ Spokane – November 7, 2008

 

Previous Game – Edmonton 5 @ Portland 2:  The Edmonton Oil Kings would score four times in the first 25 minutes and spoil the home debut of Portland Winter Hawks Head Coach Mike Johnston, defeating the Hawks by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Memorial Coliseum.  The Oil Kings got two goals from defenseman as Tyler Hlookoff and Adrian Van de Mosselaer converted from the point.  Craig McCallum, Logan Proulx and Brett Breitkreuz also added markers for Edmonton, with Breitkreuz scoring into the empty net.  Brent Raedeke had two assists for Edmonton.  Portland got goals from Taylor Peters, his second of the season, set up by Tayler Jordan and Brock Cornish late in the first period, and Stefan Schneider, his first career WHL goal, set up by Travis Bobbee and Brad Ross in the third period.  Cam Lanigan made 27 saves on 29 shots to get the win for Edmonton while Kurtis Mucha made 24 saves on 28 shots in net for Portland.  On special teams, Edmonton finished 1 for 4 on the power play while Portland went 0 for 3.

Team Notes:  Portland is (3-13-0-0); (1-5-0-0) at home; (2-8-0-0) on the road.  The Hawks last home win was on September 21, 2008, a 2-1 win over Kelowna.  The last road win was on October 31, 2008, a 4-1 win over Tri City. 

Portland vs. Spokane:  This is the fourth of nine meetings between the two teams, Spokane leads the season series 3-0-0-0.   Travis Ehrhardt (2-1-3 in 2 games) and Luke Walker (2-1-3 in 3 games) lead Portland in the series.  Levko Koper (3-2-5 in 3 games) leads Spokane.  Dustin Tokarski has won two games for Spokane, posting 1.00 GAA and a 96.9% save percentage.  Portland is 3 for 18 (16.7%) on the power play while Spokane is 6 for 17 (35.3%).   The last win for Portland in Spokane was on 11/23/05, an 8-3 victory.
