NW firefighters are gearing up and hitting the ice once again for a great hockey game to support a great cause.  The Portland Firefighters Hockey Club, an all firefighter hockey team that competes in fire and police charity games and tournaments, is playing against the Seattle Fire Hockey Team in an upcoming firefighter charity game called the “Golden Skate Charity Hockey Game”.  This charity fundraiser is in its 5th year, with each year growing in competition and intensity.  The rivalry is passionate between these two teams and this is sure to be a hockey event you won’t want to miss.

The bi-annual event is played once in Portland and once in Seattle each year by area firefighters.  Banding together in brotherhood, they play fair, fight hard and do their best to raise funds for charity.

This year, the game is set for Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at 2:30 pm, in Portland.  The game will be held at the Memorial Coliseum with proceeds benefiting the Down Syndrome Network of Oregon (DSNO) ( The DSNO advocates, educates, and supports families with special needs kids, specifically Down Syndrome.  Past charities have included the Oregon Burn Center, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Ronald McDonald House and the Tristan Richlick Family Cancer Fund.  Tickets are $12 and include general admission to the Portland Winter Hawks home game against the Red Deer Rebels that same evening (game time 7:00pm).
