Game 6 Tonight…

Marian Hossa (pictured – courtesy Getty Images) and the Pittsburgh Penguins have a chance on home ice tonight to even the Stanley Cup Final and force a deciding Game 7 in Detroit.

It looked over for the Pens on Monday night, down a goal in the final minute, before Hossa threw the puck on net from the corner and Maxime Talbot jammed home the rebound to force extra time that went nearly three full periods before Petr Sykora tallied a power play marker to extend the NHL season at least one more game.

Hossa has been tremendous the past three games for the Penguins and is shedding a bit of a reputation as a playoff bust – trailing only teammate Sidney Crosby and Red Wing Henrik Zetterburg in scoring in the post-season.  His play might be worthy of Conn Smythe consideration if the Penguins can find a way to win the next two and do what only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs have done – rally from a 3-1 deficit to win the Stanley Cup (the Leafs were down 3-0 to the Red Wings that year, won the last four games to win the Cup).

It is nice to see that viewership is up on NBC for this series and that will hopefully lead to more exposure for the NHL down the road (despite what Tiger Woods says.)

My prediction – Penguins win and force a Game 7.

I’m just not ready for the hockey season to end just yet…
