The Portland Winter Hawks acquired 18 year old left wing Joel Ridgeway from the Tri City Americans this morning in exchange for a conditional 6th rounder in 2009.
Ridgeway had 2-3-5 with 4 PIM’s in 46 games last year with the Ams. He also had one assist in 10 playoff games with Tri City. He hadn’t appeared in any games for Tri City to start this season.
The move gives Portland 13 forwards (including injured forwards Ryan Andersen and Jason Grecica), 11 defenseman and 3 goaltenders on their current roster.
Ridgeway is expected to be in the line-up on Saturday night when the Hawks face the Vancouver Giants at the Pacific Coliseum.

I thought there was a trade moratorium on the Hawks. What gives with this one? Is it exempt because no players were moved off of the Hawks roster? Are more coming soon?
Great…. another player who can’t put the biscuit in the basket. We have an entire roster with players with 2 goals and 3 assists. Lets hope he can forecheck.
What do you expect for a 6th round pick? What is tells me is the cupboards are still bare !!
I completely agree with Brian in Sherwood. The only way this team is going to get any confidence is if they get a “real” goal scorer, not somebody that you hope can eventually score. I’m tired of hearing the broadcasters saying “this is a great aquisition for the hawks”. “Let me give you his unbelievable stats”. “In his 4+ years in the league, he has 2 goals, 2 assists, and 510 penalty minutes”. Then to top it all off, to hear Ken Hodge or whoever is the Player Personnel Director at the time say “he has some grit around the net”, or “he has a mean streak that should help our hockey club” just leaves me shaking my head.
